The Record That Changed My Life,
Tony Kofi on Charlie Parker with Strings
We are excited to present the first in our series of videos called The Record That Changed My Life, whereby we ask some of the leading jazz artists and writers to tell us about the recording that had a seismic impact on them when they first heard it.
For this first episode we asked saxophonist, bandleader and composer Tony Kofi (one of the UK's most respected jazz musicians, both at home and on the international circuit) to talk about his choice, Charlie Parker with Strings. This follows hot on the heels of Tony winning a Presto Music Jazz Award for his stunning 2020 album Another Kind of Soul, an incredibly vivid homage to Cannonball (and Nat) Adderley, recorded in Watford in front of a live audience.
